  • 1 cup of Ivory soap flakes
    1/2 cup washing soda
    1/2 cup borax

This recipe shows you how to make your own laundry washing powder.


Mix all the ingredients together and store in an air tight jar. To use add 1 tbs of powder to your washing machine drawer. For heavy soiled loads use 2 tbs.

Instead of soap flakes, you can grate a bar of Ivory soap.

I use this, leaving out the washing soda, for my delicate hand-washables. It's inexpensive, it leaves my things smelling fresh, it works. The problem is that Ivory Flakes are getting harder to find around here.
