Felt Food - Tea Bag

How to make Felt Food - Tea Bag - DIY Craft Project from Craftbits.com
  • White felt
    White 1/8-inch-wide ribbon
    Ruler
    Scissors
    Hot glue gun
    Sewing machine
    Fabric paint

This tutorial shows you how to make pretend faux felt food perfect for classroom pretend play or Mothers day gift for a tea loving mummy.

Cut a 4-by-1 1/2-inch rectangle of white felt. Cut another white rectangle measuring 1 1/2-by-3/4-inches.

Cut a piece of 1/8-inch-wide ribbon that is 5 inches long.

Fold each felt rectangle in half bringing the short ends together. The smaller piece will make up the tag of the tea bag, while the larger piece will make up the actual bag. The ribbon will connect the two. Snip the corners of the larger folded pieces opposite the folded edge. Cut them at a 45-degree angle to mimic the shape of real tea bags.

Use a small dot of hot glue to glue each end of the ribbon inside one of the folded felt pieces. Use just a small drop so the glue doesn't obstruct the edges of the pieces which you need to sew.

Sew around the smaller folded piece of felt with an 1/8-inch seam allowance. Sew along all the open edges of the larger piece of folded white felt with an 1/8-inch seam allowance.

Paint a simple heart on each side of the tag of the tea bag with fabric paint to add a cute decorative touch.
