  • Yarn: Approximately 50g of Super
    Chunky yarn.
    Small amount of contrasting yarn.
    Needles: US 17 (12 mm).
    US 19 (15 mm).
    Extras: Chunky yarn for flower or bow
    Safety Pin
    Headband

This Knitting pattern shows you how to create a large flowered knit hat using chunky yarn


Abbreviations


CO: Cast On

K: knit

K2tog: knit two sts together

P: purl

P2tog: purl two sts together

Sts: stitches

St. St.: Stocking Stitch

Rev. St. St.: Reverse Stocking Stitch

KFB: knit into front and back of st.

 

Note: If knitting in the round CO 30 sts.

 

Note: If knitting in one colour, begin with a P row and continue in rev. st. st.

 


Hat Pattern

With yarn B CO 31 sts with bigger needles & P one row.

Change to yarn A and P one row.

Starting with a K row continue in rev. st. st. for 8 rows.

Change to smaller needles and continue rev. st. st. for two rows.

Next Row: P2tog to last st, K1

Next Row: Knit

Next Row: P2tog to end.

Break off yarn and thread though remaining 8 sts.

To Make up join the back seam.

 


Optional Extras

 

Flower:


Petals

With yarn B and smaller needles CO 2 sts.

Row 1: Knit.

Row 2 & 3: KFB at beginning of each row, K to end. (4 sts)

Row 4 & 5: Knit.

Row 6 & 7: K2tog at the beginning of each row. (2 sts)

Break yarn and leave 2 sts on needle.

On the same needle knit 4 more petals.

 

Flower

Next Row: K all 10 sts.

Next Row: K2tog to end. (5 sts.)

Next Row: Pass 2nd, 3rd, 4th & 5th st over the 1st st.

Break yarn, tread though st & fasten off.

Ease petals into shape & darn in loose ends.

 


Flower Center

Using yarn C, or optionally yarn A, CO 3 sts.

Row 1: KFB into every st. (6 sts.)

Row 2 & 4: P

Row 3 & 5: K

Row 6: P2tog along row. (3 sts.)

Break yarn leaving a long tail, thread through 3 sts & pull tight.

Sew into the center of petals.

 

Bow:


With yarn A CO 10 sts.

Beginning with a K row, continue in st. st. for 14 rows, or however long you would like

your bow. Cast off.

With yarn A CO 4 sts.

Beginning with a K row, continue in st. st. for 8 rows. Cast Off.

Wrap short piece around the longer piece, easing into a bow shape, sew cast on edge

to cast off edge, and darn in loose ends.

 

To Make Up

Attach Flower / Bow to hat using a pin or alternatively sew into place.
